NEW DISCOVERY

Today I found a little piece of heaven in one of my secret boxes!! You hear of how they used to make pictures of people and they would be developed on a piece of metal. Well I have found one, of my 3rd great grandfather Harvey Valentine Blackett. Judging from the time of his birth to how long they made these pictures I would say I was very lucky. It was probably taken somewhere along the time he was three or four. So around the year 1878-1879. Just as a more popular picture technique was being produced. I will definitely post pictures of it as soon as my camera comes back from Vegas with my daughter. I will definitely treasure this find. I also went shopping for antique picture frames today (or rather some frames that I can make look old)!! Not much luck:( Anyone with any ideas give me a shout out. I am getting ready to redecorate a room for just genealogy purposes!!

Is there anyone out there??

Today I read a story about a young woman who helps an elderly lady with her family history. She is looking into the life of this elderly woman's father's eldest sister. This woman's name was Faith. Faith and her family consisting of her husband and four children died in 1905 of a disease, they believed that this was the whole family. Come to find out there was a fifth child who had passed away in 1904 the same day that the child was born. This wouldn't have shown up in the 1900 census obviously and it didn't show up in the death report of the entire family because the child had already passed on. The only way that they knew this child had existed at all was because of the family bible, where faith had written down the names and dates of her children's births.

This makes me wonder how many of my own relatives am I missing simply because I do not have the resources to know from the direct source their mothers. This is what I am looking for here, I want to find the missing pieces to my puzzle that I just don't know how. I would like to find people out there that may have family keepsakes that they are willing to share with me whether family bibles, journals, or even pictures.
